Jayne Loughlin shows us how to use the Bind-it-all by Zutter to create this stunning ‘Book About Me’.

Tools required:
• Bind-it-All machine
• Bind it all o wires
• 2 x 6×6” Chipboard squares (thin or thick)
• 1 x Patterned piece of paper .
• ½ piece co-ordinating Patterned paper.
• ½ piece green 12” x 12” cardstock.
• 1 piece of blue cardstock 12” x 12”
• 3 (or maybe a few more) pieces of 12” x 12” White cardstock.

1. Firstly you will need to cut the two chipboard sheets to size if they aren’t 6” x 6”. And four pieces of patterned paper 6” x 6”. I’ve used double sided paper as it’s easier to co-ordinate. (pics. 1a & 1b)

2. Stick one piece of the PP to each of the chipboard covers (front cover & back cover) , then draw by hand if you want a shaped edge onto one of the backs of the chipboard (pic. 2). You could leave this straight if you aren’t confident in drawing a shape or perhaps use something as a template.  When you are happy with the shape cut out with scissors, place on top of the 2nd back cover and draw around the shape and cut this out so it matches. If the edges are a little jagged file them with a nail file or sandpaper lightly.

3. Now stick the other two pieces of Patterned paper onto the covers matching up the straight edges (the paper will over lap edge if you did cut a shaped edge). Trim the paper round the chipboard shape. Do this to both covers then ink the edges.

4. Cut the centre pages – I’ve used 3 pieces of white cardstock and cut into 5 ¾” x 5 ¾” squares. (pic 3)

5. Next we need to measure the shaped covers and draw in pencil a halfway line finding the middle. You can do this by making a template if you like out of scrap paper if you are unsure .  Find the  centre line to one of the pages too I drew with dark pencil so you could see, its much easier to cut the holes in the right places if you draw a line for placement.

6. Now its time for the BIA machine. Firstly slide the little black button on the side to open as instructed in your manual. Put in ALL your pages and make sure they are all touching the Bottom & have straight sides.  Line up the centre line which you drew earlier with the arrow on the BIA itself & punch the holes in the pages. Put to one side. Do the same with the two covers placing them back to back (pic 4)

7. Now cut 6 loops in the BIA O wires. I’ve used 5/8 width. Bigger wires let you add thicker embellishments in the book. Measure the wires (pic 5).  Adjust your machine to the size of the wires (pic 6).

8. Put the two covers together (front and back facing) and the pages on top. Thread the wire loops through the cut holes (pic. 7). Place in BIA as shown and press the handle down again. Do this gently – but the handle should push all the way and stop without crushing the wires (pic 8).

9. Fold cover to front & embellish the cover as wished. I used a co-ordinating paper and cut a 4”x 4” square and matted this with cardstock. I then cut another 5” x 5” square – this time scalloping the edges. Layer the scalloped piece of cardstock with the matted paper. Stick onto the book and add two flowers on top of each other and centre with a button.
