Altered ‘After Eights’ Box by Fiona Haigh-Gannon
Posted on 15 December 2008 by Fiona Haigh-Gannon
If you would like to spice up your presents and keep people guessing, then this Altered Art Tutorial by Fiona Haigh-Gannon is just the answer.Warning! This is one only for the strong willed to try! Unless you don’t like After Eight Mints!
1. Take a box of After Eight Mints and remove the contents. Put them to one side but do NOT eat!
2. Take the box apart as carefully as you can and use this as a template for your patterned paper. You will need a sheet of 12×12 paper and the box will just fit nicely with enough left over for the little inner bit too.
3. Cut out the template. Try to be generous and not cut too close to the pencil lines as when you fold it the paper can shrink a bit. Also leave an extra flap at the front to fold over the edge. It’s not essential but it does give a nicer finish.
4. Apply glue all over the After Eight Box and adhere the patterned paper to it.
5. Apply adhesive to the extra flap if you made one and fold it over the front edge.
6. Make a template again for the inside decorative flap, cut out and adhere as before.
7. Apply adhesive to the tabs on the decorative flap and stick back into position on the inside of the box.
8. Crease all the folds on the box then apply strong adhesive to the tabs where the box was originally held together.
9. Hold it in place until the glue is dry enough to hold it together.
10. Put the After Eight Mints back into the box and close the lid.
11. Decorate the outside of the box with ribbons, tags, flowers etc.

Brilliant idea Fe, and a superb tutorial. Don’t know if I’ve got the willpower for the ‘Do not eat’ and ‘Put them back into the box’ bit though. LOL!
