Candle Tissue Transfer Tutorial
Posted on 16 January 2009 by Debbie Moore
Decorating a candle using the Tissue Paper Method is a very popular method and easy to do and Debbie Moore shows us how…
You will need a candle, white tissue paper, stamp and inkpad, some greaseproof paper and heat gun.
TIP: Use a hard candle, like a church candle etc. If the candle is made form soft wax then it will melt.

Measure and cut your tissue paper to the size needed for your image. Stamp your desired image on to the tissue paper. I have stamped my image 3 times to go around the candle.

Wrap the tissue paper around the candle and use the greaseproof paper to hold tightly in place.
TIP: If you are not sure whether you can manage to hold the full length of tissue paper around the candle and to heat all at once then cut your images out separately and heat them individually.

Heat gently with heat gun – keep moving the heat around, do not concentrate too long on the one area. You will see the image change colour, this is when it is ready. Carefully remove greaseproof paper. And now you will see the image on your candle.

Now you can decorate the candle further if you wish. Here I have used some blue and white braiding to match the stamped image and also used some beads threaded onto wire.
I have also made a matching tag by stamping the same image onto a small piece of tissue paper and adhering it on to a tag. The same braiding has been added and finished off with decorative brad.

I’ve done something similar using vellum. I printed photos onto the vellum and then used the same waxed paper technique to apply the photos to the candles. These hand decorated candles make great gifts!

Could you use a hair blow dryer in place of a heat gun?

Yes the tissue paper is the regular sort - the kind you would wrap presents in etc.
Yes you can use napkins - they work very well.
Regarding using a hair dryer - I am not sure - have never tried it before. I would do a test one first. ?????
Thank you all for you comments and questions
