Clearly Perfect Series - #4

Posted on 31 January 2009 by admin

We would all like to save a bit of money, well this altered item which should also be covered as being ‘on a budget’ is also in keeping with our Clearly Perfect series. Tracey Grundy has taken what was a clear but plain pencil case and made it into a work of art.

The whole of the plastic case has been decorated with alcohol inks.  The inside of the case has been decorated by stamping on a piece of cardstock (using a Fancy Pants Designs stamp) which has been measured and cut to size to fit perfectly inside.  Before being set inside the case, the stamped cardstock is then fed through the Xyron 510 machine using the ‘Laminate Front and Permanent’ cartridge.  This cartridge laminates the front of the cardstock but applies permanent adhesive to the back of the card, which is ideal for adhering to the inside of the case.  The laminated front ensures that the cardstock is protected.

In order to cover over some difficult to remove adhesive from the front of the closed case, the same technique was used and some bling added in the form of gem stones.  And that’s how you can spice up a plain pencil case!

Using the same technique with the Xyron 510 ‘Laminate Front and Permanent’ cartridge Tracey Grundy drew and coloured in a ‘crafty’ person using water colour pencils and permanent ink pens for the image and the text.  The image and text was then fed through the Xyron machine and then adhered to the front of the clipboard.  Finally permanent pens were used on the reverse of the clipboard in pink and purple colours to add that bit of colour.
